摘要
Since the optical structure of traditional LCD monitor (TFT-LCD) is complicated, as shown in Figure 1, the backlight source needs to pass levels of consumption and conversion from the upper and lower polarizers, liquid crystal layer, black matrix, TFT metal shielding, color filter, optical film, etc., causing poor light efficiency; brightness that can be sensed by the human eye is less than 8% of the brightness originally emitted by the LED or CCFL backlight module, leaving large room for improvement in terms of energy conversion efficiency. In addition, existing TFT-LCD process technologies (line width) and the LCD switching speeds also restrict the resolution and response time performances of TFT-LCD. Although TFT-LCD is enough to handle the requirements of current consumer electronics, such as mobile phones and TVs , it is unable to satisfy the technology requirements of next generation carriers such as virtual reality (VR); therefore, new display technologies started to emerge. The next generation display technology Micro LED can solve the poor light conversion efficiency, resolution and response time problems, the investments made to it from leading manufacturers such as Apple and SONY, made it the center of attention. This article will further discuss the advantages and disadvantages of Micro LED and its future developments.
