Output of optoelectronic components segment was down 1.8% over last year to TWD98 billion in 2016, thanks to hard to grow market due to weak global demands for terminal application products and falling price in lighting application markets, and asymmetric competition from China. The PCB segment down 1.3% over last year thanks to continuous global heavy recession in the first half year (in spite of a growing second one). The passive components nudges up slightly due to slow growth in end products, especially the 4G mobile phone replacement spree was weak. Sales of connection components were up 2.1% over last year to TWD174.9 billion in 2016, thanks to rosy demands for the Chinese made smartphone iPhone 7/ 7+ and automotive/IoT growth momentum. The energy components segment appears weak due to sliding global delivery of NB and tablet computers in 2016 (as Taiwan has long been the leading supplier of battery module to both products). In total, output of Taiwanese electronic components industry nudged down 1.1% from last year to TWD1043.8 billion in 2016.
